Non invasive evaluation of tuning curves of the auditory system

Tuning curve measurement is the prerequisite for accurate hearing aid design. Accurate hearing aid in prelingual, non-collaborating deaf infants is of paramount importance for the development of language skill in this population. Threshold brainstem responses to an amplitude modulated pure sound are measured (ASSEP method) and tuning curve are evaluated using a narrow band masking noise paradigm. The non invasive evaluation has been validated in adult human by comparison to the psychological tuning curves and in experimental animals by masking pure tone cochleographic responses.

Evaluation in animals harbouring genetic auditory defect is planed.

In collaboration with Pr. P Deltenre, Hôpital Universitaire des Enfants Reine Fabiola.
